In an international whose seasons are outlined by way of Christmas revenues and Spring models, thousands of tiny nomes stay within the corners and crannies of a human-run division shop. they've got made their houses underneath the floorboards for generations and not remember—or even think in—life past the shop walls.
Until the day a small band of nomes arrives on the shop from the skin. Led by way of a tender nome named Masklin, the Outsiders hold a mysterious black field (called the Thing), and so they carry devastating information: In twenty-one days, the shop might be destroyed.
Now all of the nomes needs to discover ways to interact, and so they needs to learn how to think—and to imagine large.
